MATCHED PAIR OF BFC 104 FIELD COIL COAX 15 INCH SPEAKERS
developed as a high power replacement for the Altec 604 series speakers
in studio applications. Weighing over 65 lbs a single 13 lb field coil
drives the low frequency section and mid/high portion.
Both use large 4 inch voice coils. The low frequency section is
similar to the pair of BFC 520 woofers that were recently sold here. It
is a high power version of the JBL 150-4C that uses a field coil
equivalent of a 375 compression driver magnet for much
improved attack. The high frequency section shares this massive field
coil and is uses any of the JBL 4 inch voice coil diaphragms or Radian
1245 or Truextent BE 4016 can be substituted.
This is a used pair that were sold originally in 2009 and have been
reconed with a JBL 150 type paper edge cone. A pair of the Radian 1245
diaphragms are included. Both drivers are tested and working properly.
The new price less crossovers and cabinets was
$9950 for the pair. This is an early prototype pair and they are part
of a run of approximately 60 speakers. Presently used in demanding
applications world wide. See picture above of famous mastering engineer
Stan Ricker who was an enthusiastic user of
these speakers. Also installed in Sunset Screening in Beverly Hills
which is used for many Academy and review screenings.
driven by a nominal 12 volt dc supply between 1.2 and 1.5 amps. It is
recommended using a supply for each speaker to achieve the best stereo
imaging as there is a slight interaction between
the supply and the voice coil signal. Both voice coils measure around 6
ohm and will work well with most 8 or 16 ohm crossovers. For best
results a crossover frequency between 800 and 1200 hz is recommended.
