 PROTOTYPE MAN ON THE MOON SPEAKERS IN PORTABLE CABINETS

This listing is for a prototype pair of Man on the Moon full range speakers in special plastic/carbon fiber cabinets for use in portable applications.  The special full range speakers share the same sonic characteristics as their more expensive field coil brothers of a wide 9 octave bandwidth with high dynamic capability and detail.  Sensitivity is high around 95 db.  There is sufficient low frequency output that no subwoofer is needed for many applications.  They are designed for more intimate sound needs that require the detail output of reference monitors as their power handling capability is limited due to the low mass moving elements.

The Man on the Moon speakers were developed to reproduce phase related information that is needed for ambisonic and newer binaural 3D hemispheric sound applications.  Most small speakers are dependent on using a tweeter and crossover that smears the sound output due to phase shifting and arrival time problems associated with a crossover and multiple drivers.  They also tend to use a higher mass woofer to gain greater low frequency extension or higher power handling which reduces dynamic output.  The Man on the Moon approach is to use a very low mass moving cone that works more like a compression driver diaphragm in a horn loaded speaker system.  This allows for an up to 20 db greater dynamic bandwidth than conventional sized speakers.

Tested and working properly.  Includes  a pair of 4 pin Speakon plugs for cable connection.  The buyer should be aware that even though the speakers have been used in applications where they put out 95 to 100db,  the power handling in RMS terms is only 15 to 20 watts.  Their use should be limited to those applications where this limitation is not a problem.
